World AIDS Day

In 1988, the International AIDS Society (IAS) was established as an organization dedicated to addressing HIV issues and the AIDS pandemic. Also in 1988, the US Government officially designated October, 1988 as National AIDS Awareness and Prevention Month, through Presidential Proclamation #5892. Internationally, December 1 is commemorated as World AIDS Day. The following statistical presentations highlight the most recent metrics available on HIV and AIDS incidence and prevalence in the State of Maryland, and Prince George's County:

  3. Maryland State Health Improvement Process (SHIP), MD Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
    • Objective 20: Reduce new HIV infections among adults and adolescents
    • Rate of new (incident) cases of HIV in persons aged 13+ per 100,000, 2009
