  • Health Department and Doctors Community Hospital celebrate collaboration on Free Diabetes Screenings and Education to Residents December 3, 2013Under the theme "Taking Knowledge to Action", Prince George's County Health Department and Doctors Community Hospital's Joslin Diabetes Center celebrated their collaboration on establishing and hosting "On the Road" Diabetes Outreach Program on December 3, 2013, at Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex in Landover, Maryland. The program raises awareness about the importance of diabetes prevention, screenings, and management.
  • Health Insurance Marketplace Enrollment Events December 7, 14, and 21, 2013Prince George's County Residents can begin enrolling for health care coverage at selected locations on December 7, 14, and 21. For more information, including additional enrollment locations, view flyer or visit
  • Community Event: Open House at Hillcrest Heights Community Center, MD December 18, 2013HEAL will be participating along with multiple vendors. HEAL will provide information and materials on chronic disease prevention, smoking cessation, and healthy eating and active living, as well as materials describing Health Department Services. Organized in partnership with the County's Transforming Neighborhood Initiative, this event will be held at the Hillcrest Heights Community Center, located at 2300 Oxon Hill Run Drive, Temple Hills, Md 20785, from 6:30 – 8:30 PM.
  • HEAL scheduled to participate in Capital Area Food Bank Mobile Markets Food distribution in Glenarden, MD December 21, 2013HEAL will participate in another Capital Area Food Bank Mobile Markets Food distribution at 3600 Brightseat Road, in Glenarden, MD, from 10 am until 12 noon. The First Baptist Church of Glenarden and its SHABACH affiliate are co-sponsors of the event. Classes are open to adults, aged 18 and over, diagnosed with diabetes, family members and care givers.

  • HEAL participated in Capital Area Food Bank Mobile Markets Food distribution in Glenarden, MD November 16, 2013Along with six other vendors, HEAL participated in a Capital Area Food Bank Mobile Markets Food distribution for Prince George's County residents, at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden. The church's SHABACH affiliate co-sponsored the event. Promotional materials on Health Department Services, healthy eating and active living, clinical preventive services, and smoking cessation were disseminated along with various HEAL embossed freebees.
  • Great National American Smokeout Events at the Health Department, Doctors Community Hospital, and Prince George's County Hospital November 19-21, 2013 County residents have plenty of options to attend smokefree focused events in November in partnership with the Health Department.   • HEAL participated in Volunteers Night at Capital Area Food Bank Facility in Washington, DC November 21, 2013Three HEAL staffers joined volunteers from approximately 12 organizations and participated in a Volunteers Night at a Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB)facility in Washington, DC. Volunteers sorted food along a conveyor belt, configured, sealed, and labeled boxes. According to CAFB, volunteers packed 200 boxes of food totaling 1,200 lbs.- an amount that would provide 1,440 meals to residents in need.

  • Affordable Health Care Now Available to Prince Georgians October 1, 2013 - March 31, 2014Prince George's residents - take advantage of affordable health care. County residents are encouraged to contact Capital Region Health Connector, who will educate and enroll eligible individuals and families in Maryland Health Connection, the state-based health insurance marketplace. Visit or call toll-free 1-855-642-8572. Enrollment ends March 31, 2014.
  • Knock Out the Flu. It's Time to Get a Flu ShotOctober 12, 2013The Health Department is offering free flu shots to County residents ages 6 months and older from Oct. 12 until supplies last. Clinics are open to all county residents. No appointment required. School-aged children ages 2 to 17 years old must bring a parent or guardian to get a flu shot.   • Health Department Partners with Doctors Community Hospital for Breast Cancer Awareness Month October 17, 2013Prince Georgians are invited to come out on Oct. 17, 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., at Doctors Community Hospital, 8116 Good Luck Road, to take advantage of free screenings (i.e., mammograms, breast exams, and bra fitting). Free giveaways! Get 10% off your next meal at Ruby Tuesday. Refreshments will be served. Call 301-552-8524 for appointments. Walk- ins accepted.
  • Health Department Supports Tom Joyner in 10th Annual Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day October 25, 2013The Health Department unites with Tom Joyner, Radio One and other partners in presenting the 10th annual Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day on Oct. 25, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., at Laurel Regional Hospital, 7300 Van Dusen Road.
